Why is there politics and economy at HMS?
The Education Act in the Hessian school law defines as an aim of the school to contribute to that students can develop their personality in the community. The school programme of HMS defines that students shall experience that they can help to design their environment in the vocational and personal area. They shall become aware of taking responsibility for resultant rights and responsibilities. Especially the classes in “politics and economy” offer numerous opportunities to consider controversial problems and multifold perspectives, and in doing so to encourage a critical thinking. The students shall be put into the situation to develop into mature citizens. The basis for critical thinking, empathy skills and the formation of opinion in the political context is the knowledge of essential terms, processes and rules.
By the development of the action concept (self-, social-, professional and method competency) – which is in the center at vocational schools – students get encouraged to actively take part in a social, political and economical life.
